BIKE PATH

/OUR STORY

This new bike path builds upon the existing one to promote unity and community. We redesigned the bike path to be the conduit that connects all of the suburb into one interconnected community. The transformation is the pedestrianization of our community’s bike paths and sidewalks through repurposing the current infrastructure to simply make SCV more walkable. The existing path is very depressing and bland; to encourage outdoor interaction, we made interactive spaces by expanding onto the sides of the bike path to create viewing areas to sit & chill. These zones would include rental bikes, benches, outdoor workout spaces, and community art walls. The bike path itself was lined with solar-powered lamps to provide light in the pitch-black lanes at night. Lastly, we incorporated tartan track surfaces on the pedestrian lanes and the concept of contra-flow bike lanes to encapsulate our design in beauty and sustainability.

The SCV bike path is the divide that separates our community from the potential of another community born of barren river.
Because the bike path is elevated above the river, it creates a social and class divide in which people pitifully look down upon the unhoused and other impoverished individuals that have been forced into the river.

/TRANSPERANCY

/OPPURTUNITY

Redesigning the bike path to become a conduit that connects all of the suburb. We want to extend the purpose of the bike path to make the rest of SCV walkable.

/STRATGEY

  • Research safe and sustainable ways to encourage people to interact with one another and the environment more.

  • Then research the materials and feasibility of bringing this redesign to life.

  • Create renderings visualizing and integrating our research
